It is also known as\u00a0<strong>Militia Guard Barracks<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Parador<\/strong>\u00a0o\u00a0<strong>Municipal Jail<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was built as a parador or inn around 1823. The building, the oldest in the city, provided accommodation to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Espa%C3%B1a\">Spanish government personnel<\/a>&nbsp;and it also served as a regional military headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1848, Jacinto L\u00f3pez purchased the structure. Converting it into a residence, L\u00f3pez added two wings that created a U-shaped configuration around an interior courtyard. In 1871, Casa del Rey became home to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Manuel_A._Alonso\">Manuel Alonso y Pacheco<\/a>, the notable romantic writer from Puerto Rico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was included in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Registro_Nacional_de_Lugares_Hist%C3%B3ricos\">National Register of Historic Places<\/a>&nbsp;United States in 1989.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The house was restored by the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Instituto_de_Cultura_Puertorrique%C3%B1a\">Institute of Puerto Rican Culture<\/a>\u00a0in 1978 and is now a local history museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Casa del Rey, o\u00a0King&#8217;s House, es un lugar hist\u00f3rico en el pueblo de\u00a0Dorado, en\u00a0Puerto Rico.
